The four stages
These four rows are the whole structure. Nothing in the platform sits outside them.
The foundation years
Three foundational years that build school readiness through play, story, song and structured discovery. Learners meet letters, numbers, colour and their own community before they ever sit a formal test.
Grades 1 to 6
A six-year cycle under the reduced structure, with learners starting Grade 1 at six years old and sitting the National Primary Leaving Examination at the end of Grade 6 instead of Grade 7.
Forms 1 to 6
Six years split into four years of O-Level work in Forms 1 to 4 and two years of A-Level specialisation in Forms 5 and 6, so learners leave with a full advanced qualification before university.
The degree pathway
A standard three-year university degree pathway that Form 6 leavers step straight into, having already completed advanced level study at school.
Pedagogical alignment
Matching a syllabus is not the same as matching a curriculum. These are the choices that shape how lessons are written here.
The national curriculum is competence-based: a learner is judged on what they can do, not on how many pages were turned. Our quizzes are written the same way, tagged by skill rather than by chapter, so a result tells you which competence is missing.
Creative and Technology Studies at primary, and Business Studies and Agricultural Science at secondary, carry lessons that end in something made, costed or sold. Enterprise is treated as a school subject, not an extra.
Lessons are taught in English from Grade 1 upward, because that is what examinations are written in. Zambian Languages runs alongside it as its own subject so Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga and Lozi keep their place.
Grade 1 begins at six years old. The National Primary Leaving Examination sits at the end of Grade 6, the School Certificate at Form 4 and the Advanced Certificate at Form 6. Every past paper in the archive is filed against one of those points.
Because two years of advanced level work are completed at school in Forms 5 and 6, a Form 6 leaver enters a three year Bachelor degree rather than a four year one.

The foundation years

Letter sounds, counting to twenty and lots of guided play.
School readiness year: writing names, early reading and number bonds.
Grades 1 to 6
6 levels
Reading simple sentences, adding and subtracting within twenty.
Fluent short reading, place value and the world around us.
Multiplication, comprehension and first written compositions.
Fractions, integrated science and structured study habits.
Decimals, essay structure and practical creative studies.
The National Primary Leaving Examination year.
Forms 1 to 6
6 levels
First O-Level year: algebra, scientific method and academic writing.
Deeper sciences, geometry and civic responsibility.
Specialisation begins across sciences, humanities and business.
School Certificate year with full past paper preparation.
First A-Level year: advanced study in three chosen subjects.
Advanced Certificate year and the bridge into university.
Choose the grade your child is in at school. If they are between levels, start one step lower, work through the first lessons and move up. Changing level takes a moment in the dashboard and nothing already completed is lost.
