Terms of service

Plain terms for a Zambian education subscription. No hidden clauses, no invented registration numbers, and nothing written to be skimmed past.

1What this service is

Visku Academy is an online learning service for the Zambian school curriculum. It provides video lessons, written explanations, quizzes that are marked automatically, study advice generated from those quiz results, and an archive of past examination papers, covering Early Childhood Education, Grades 1 to 6 and Forms 1 to 6.

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using the website and the accounts on it. By creating an account you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not create an account.

We are a private learning service. We are not a school, we do not award qualifications, and we are not an examination body. Nothing here replaces enrolment at a school or registration for a national examination.

2Accounts and eligibility

There are three kinds of account: learner, parent and administrator. Administrator accounts are created by invitation only.

Children are welcome to use the service, but only with the knowledge and consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf, and by creating an account you confirm that they have.

A parent or guardian who creates or pays for a learner account is responsible for that account, including what is done with it and the subscription attached to it.

  • Give accurate details when registering, and keep them up to date.
  • Keep your password to yourself. An account is for one person.
  • Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.
  • A parent links to a child using a 6-digit code generated in the parent dashboard. The code expires after 24 hours and can only be used once.

3Subscriptions, trials and billing

Every plan starts with a 14 day free trial at full access. We do not ask for a card or a mobile money number to begin the trial.

All prices are quoted and charged in Zambian Kwacha (ZMW) and are billed monthly in advance from the day you first pay. Payment can be made by MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, Zamtel Kwacha, Visa or Mastercard, or bank transfer.

If a payment does not go through, we notify you, retry once the following day, and keep the account open for seven days. After that the account becomes read-only until a payment succeeds. Work already completed is never deleted for non-payment.

We may change our prices. If we do, we will tell you at least 30 days before the change affects your subscription, and you are free to cancel before it does.

4Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. There is no notice period, no cancellation fee and no need to telephone anyone.

When you cancel, your subscription runs to the end of the month you have already paid for, and then stops. We do not pro-rate a partial month back to you, because you keep the access you paid for until it expires.

If you were charged in error, charged twice, or charged after cancelling, write to us and we will refund it. Refunds are returned to the method that was used to pay.

5Acceptable use

The service is for personal study by the learner on the account. The following are not allowed, and an account may be suspended or closed for any of them.

  • Sharing a login, or letting several learners work from one learner account.
  • Downloading, recording, republishing or reselling lessons, quizzes or past papers.
  • Attempting to break, overload, scrape or gain unauthorised access to any part of the service.
  • Uploading or sending anything unlawful, abusive, or harmful to another user.
  • Using the service to impersonate someone else, including another learner or a member of our team.

6Content and intellectual property

The lessons, written explanations, quiz questions, illustrations, study advice, name and branding of Visku Academy belong to us or to those who licensed them to us. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use them for study while your account is active. That right ends when the account does.

Past examination papers are the work of the relevant examining body. We reproduce and annotate them for study purposes and we do not claim ownership of them.

Anything you write into the service, such as a quiz answer or a message to support, stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it so that we can run the service for you.

7Availability and changes

We work to keep the service running, but we cannot promise it will be available without interruption. Maintenance, network faults, power problems and third-party outages all happen, and some of them are outside our control.

We add, improve and occasionally retire lessons and features as the curriculum and our library change. If we remove something significant that you rely on, we will give reasonable notice.

8Suspension and closing an account

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is being used fraudulently, or where we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to put it right.

You can ask us to close your account at any time. We will do it, and we will delete or anonymise the personal data we hold as described in our privacy policy.

9Our responsibility to you

We take care over the accuracy of our lessons and our marking, but no learning service can guarantee a grade or an examination result, and we do not. Study outcomes depend on many things we do not control.

If we get something wrong, our responsibility to you is limited to the subscription fees you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Zambia, and the Zambian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Before anything reaches a court we would much rather hear from you directly. Most disputes are a misunderstanding about billing, and most are settled by email within a day.
